Hello, beautiful souls!

I am Pascale Gibon, your host and a warm welcome to episode 339 of The Everyday Life Balance Show. Thank you for tuning in. 

As a Freedom Coach, I thrive on helping women who navigate life transitions boost their self-confidence and self-esteem to unleash their highest potential. Today, I want to clarify the distinction between confidence and authentic confidence. Confidence often stems from increasing competencies and taking action, that is the more you act, the more confident you become, while authentic confidence blossoms from aligning with your true nature. 

Why is this distinction so important? 

  • The more you get to know yourself and embrace your authentic self, the more you unlock a sense of freedom that propels you forward in your journey of self-exploration, transformation and evolution towards living your best life.
  • Exploring authentic confidence has been my experience, and I want you to start your journey to freedom. In this episode, we will delve into the hidden blocks to self-confidence and self-esteem that affect your life and explore actionable steps to overcome them. 

A lack of confidence and self-esteem can hold you back and affect various areas of your life, such as career, finances, connections, love relationships, health or overall happiness. It reflects the restless nights spent overthinking, the indecisions and hesitations that stand in the way of your true potential.

Let’s address these hidden blocks head-on:

1st hidden block is your self-Image: 

Your self-image, or how you see yourself, profoundly affects your self-confidence and self-esteem. A negative self-image often originates from childhood experiences where we compare ourselves to others and internalized feelings of inadequacy. As a result, we created a distorted sense of identity that does not reflect our true nature and potential.

To cultivate a positive self-image, we must begin with self-acceptance. It involves nurturing and healing the inner child and crafting a narrative that reflects our true essence.

Furthermore, here is a short extract on self-acceptance from my book “Yes To Love - The Ultimate Guide To Personal Transformation For Everyday Life Balance”:

“Self-acceptance requires you to align with the law of non-resistance. It seems that other people remain stuck on the road of resistance. The road of least resistance is peace. Self-acceptance is, therefore, finding peace within.”

2nd hidden block is self-doubt or lack of self-belief.

Can you see the thread already? Self-doubt stems from a negative self-image and imposes limitations on what we believe we can achieve. Do you remember when you told yourself you could not do something because of self-limitation? Stepping out of our comfort zone and embracing our competency is the key to overcoming self-doubt. Self-doubt and lack of self-belief keep us stuck in a spiral of indecision, procrastination, frustration and sometimes disappointment in ourselves.

By challenging our limitations, we increase our self-reliance, resilience, and decision-making power and unlock our potential. What are the limitations you impose upon yourself?

One of my students, Gabi, built confidence throughout our 12-week coaching programme because she gained insights about herself and experienced breakthroughs. One breakthrough was to realize that she needed to review her diary to incorporate more self-care and promote wellness.

3rd hidden block is negative self-talk.

Can you relate to this? Negative self-talk like “Who am I to be with this gorgeous man?” sabotages our confidence and perpetuates feelings of unworthiness.

Negative self-talk is a story we have created about ourselves and becomes a kind of escapism whenever we feel uncomfortable in certain situations due to fear. 

It is essential to identify and challenge detrimental thought patterns. 

Walt Disney famously said: “if you can dream it, you can do it.” Cultivating self-care and compassion can counteract negative self-talk, allowing us to acknowledge our successes and embrace our worthiness. 

4th hidden block is self-sabotage.

Self-sabotage is the art of making a decision and finding various excuses to get out of it. Self-sabotage is a coping mechanism rooted in fear. Let’s say it is the fear of rejection. You want to be in a relationship, and your best friend finds you a date. You agree, but the closer you get to the date night, the more excuses you find to sabotage the opportunity. “What if he does not like me?” “What if I can’t handle the situation?” “What if I don’t know what to say?” What if … etc. The result, you cancel the date. Self-sabotage often leads us to sabotage opportunities for growth and fulfilment. By recognizing our self-sabotage patterns, we can confront the underlying fears and break free from this cycle of limitation.

5th hidden block is perfectionism. 

The self-talk here is the following: “When I…” 

“When I know more, I will launch my business,»

«When my website is perfect, I will look for clients,» «When I get this third degree, I will look for a job » I must raise my hand here because I identify with the perfectionist. If you are a perfectionist, are you aware of this pattern? 

Perfectionism breeds self-doubt and hinders progress by fixating on unattainable standards. Embracing imperfection and committing to excellence fosters a sense of empowerment and satisfaction. It is about acknowledging that ‘good enough’ is sufficient to move forward and achieve our dreams. 

The reality is that when you have a goal or dream, you have to do it afraid, feel the fear and do it anyway. When fear becomes your ally, you become unstoppable.

Now, I invite you to reflect on the quote: “Whenever we find ourselves lacking, there lies an opportunity to grow our trust and faith in our ability to overcome and succeed.” What does this quote invoke in you?

“To be happy you have to make peace with your past, love the present, and feel so excited about the future.”
